Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making this site usable by everyone.

Our Commitment
The Sharpe Shop is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use assistive technology like screen readers, magnification, or keyboard-only navigation. We're a small, two-person business, but accessibility is something we actively work on, not an afterthought.
Standard We Aim For
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our target. This includes things like sufficient color contrast, descriptive text for images, proper labels on form fields, keyboard-operable menus and pop-ups, and a logical heading structure throughout the site.
What We've Done
Some of the concrete steps we've taken on this site:
- Descriptive alt text on meaningful images, and decorative images marked so screen readers skip them
- A "Skip to main content" link so keyboard users can bypass the repeated header/navigation on every page
- Popups and dialogs (like our email signup and the "Ask the Shop" assistant) support the Escape key, keep keyboard focus contained while open, and return focus to where you were once closed
- Color combinations checked against WCAG's minimum contrast ratios
- Every form field has a real, associated label
- A visible focus outline on every interactive element for keyboard navigation
- An explicit pause button on our scrolling announcement banner, in addition to it pausing automatically on hover and respecting your device's reduced-motion setting
Known Limitations
We rely on a couple of third-party services (our email signup form and our contact/order forms) that we don't have full control over the code of. We've configured them as accessibly as we're able to, but if you run into a problem with one of them specifically, please let us know using the contact info below and we'll do what we can, including working around the third-party tool if needed.
Feedback
If you have trouble accessing any part of this site, please tell us. We want to know about it and we'll do our best to fix it. Email thesharpeshop.business@gmail.com with a description of the issue, what page it's on, and what device/browser/assistive technology you're using if you know it -- a photo or screen recording helps too. Alec and Hannah read every message themselves.
